South Korea, a country in East Asia. It occupies the southern part of the Korean Peninsula. The country borders the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (North Korea) in the north, the East China Sea (Sea of ​​Japan) in the east, the East China Sea in the south, and the Yellow Sea in the west. In the southeast, it is separated from Japan's Tsushima Island by the Tsushima Strait. South Korea occupies about 45 percent of the  land area of ​​the peninsula. The capital is Seoul (Seoul).
