Korean family celebrate Chuseok Festival

Once dominant Confucian culture (Confucianism is an ancient Chinese belief system that emphasizes the importance of individual ethics and morality. It is arguable whether it is just philosophy or religion. Mencius (or Mencius, who lived from 372 to 289 BC) is the most famous Confucian philosopher after Confucius himself. (National Geographic Society, 2020). With an emphasis on respect for ancestors, age and seniority, it continues to influence Korean families, work and social life, but not as much as it used to. Age and marital status, along with other factors such as economic status and position in the corporate hierarchy,  are  determinants of relative seniority, and these factors, especially age, also influence social acquaintance relationships. Is expected. Traditional family life is strongly associated with rituals that mark milestones in the life cycle and adherence to holidays and ancestral rituals. The most important stages in a person's life are the completion of the baby's first 100 days,  marriage, and his 61st birthday. According to traditional Korean beliefs, the spirits of the deceased will not leave the earth for generations. Therefore, deceased parents and grandparents are still considered members of the family. Ancestor rituals (cherye) are held to honor them on the anniversary of their death or important holidays. Two of the most important holidays are Sŏllal (Lunar New Year) and Chusŏk (Harvest Moon Festival, often referred to as  Korean Thanksgiving), both observed according to the lunar calendar. These are characterized by family gatherings in the home of their ancestors or in the home of the head of the family. Traditional elements of the holiday celebration include formal and respectful greetings of the  elders,  preparation and meals of special foods such as certain types of rice cakes (ddŏk), and  wearing  traditional clothes (hanbok). It will be.
